Road users may have noticed these bicycle symbols on the resealed Junction Rd in Mossman recently.
The markings have been made to identify the area as a Bicycle Awareness Zone (BAZ).
They are advisory only to remind road users that cyclists and motorists are sharing the road space.
They are used when there is insufficient space on the road to provide an exclusive bicycle lane.
It is recommended that motorists do not overtake cyclists in these zones until there is sufficient room to safely pass or where the road widens.
Council has introduced this treatment along this section with the future goal of improving the cyclist/pedestrian access along this section.
