DOUGLAS community groups have delivered 50 Christmas hampers to struggling families through the Mayor’s Christmas Appeal.
Council staff, Quicksilver Group and Uniting Church volunteers packed the hampers with food, toys and other donated goods at the Mossman Shire Hall.
Douglas Shire Mayor Julia Leu said the appeal made sure every Douglas family had an opportunity for some Christmas cheer.
“A big thank you to our generous donors – every little bit helps to take some weight off our local families who are doing it a bit tough this Christmas,” she said.
“We all know Christmas is a really special time for giving and this is a whole of community effort to bring this together.”
“It was great to have local businesses and our hard-working Douglas community groups support this initiative.”
Port Douglas business Quicksilver Group donated about $10,000 worth of food and gifts to charities St Vincent de Pauls, Salvation Army and Douglas Shire families as part of their 15th annual Christmas Appeal this year.
Mossman Support Services, Port Douglas Neighbourhood Centre and Goobidi Home & Community Care were instrumental in supporting the Mayor’s Christmas Appeal.
