A DIVERSE committee tasked with assessing the state of the economy and building a road map to grow the economy will be recruited before Christmas.
Douglas Shire Council will release an Expression of Interest later this week, calling for seven business representatives in Douglas Shire to sit on the Economic Strategic Review Committee.
The committee will hold six sessions over two months with the aim of deploying a cross-shire approach to economic planning and improving sustainable economic outcomes in the region.
Douglas Shire Mayor and ESRC Chair, Julia Leu, is encouraging members of the community and key industries to put their hand up.
“This is about working together to grow our economy,” she said.
“We want to review our current strategy and tap into the fantastic ideas that our local business owners and industry figures have so we can move forward together.
“Here is a valuable opportunity to work with Council on a refreshed approach to our economic development strategy.”
The proposed committee will feature 12 members including Mayor Leu, Douglas Chamber of Commerce President Liz Ross, Tourism Port Douglas Daintree Chief Executive Officer Tara Bennett and two Council Officers.
The remaining seven positions will be filled through the EOI process.
Council Chief Executive Officer Mark Stoermer will facilitate the meetings.
To support the Committee in gathering data, Council is also be conducting a survey of business in the Shire.
The results will be shared with the Committee at their first session and made available to the general public.
