In early 2007 Douglas Shire Council granted approval for native landscaping the centre medium strip in Nautilus St by the local residents.
It soon became apparent to Council that the conditions of the approval which required the planting of native species only were not being met by the residents.
Council issued correspondence to the property owners of Nautilus St in 2007 reinforcing the requirement to plant only native species and ensure any garden is set back at least four metres from the road.
In 2014 Council issued a request for any person or organisation interested in assisting with the maintenance of the Nautilus St medium strip to make contact with Council. There were no responses.
Due to a lack of interest/participation from the local community, Council is now restoring the nature strip to a manageable condition that Council staff are able to maintain with available resources.
