Douglas Shire Council congratulates our Australia Day Award Recipients for 2014.
Ron Schild – Citizen of the Year
To quote Ron’s nominee: “Ron Schild has lived his life a pineapple farmer, a dedicated family man and a full time supporter of community groups such as Rotary, the Rifle Club and the Show Society. Even at over 80 years of age he can still be seen rolling up his sleeves to assist in building projects and loading up his truck to deliver stalls and goods to the annual Mossman Show. Ron has always made himself available to take office in community groups having served as President or Treasurer for many years. Ron is an unassuming person well deserving of community recognition for his many years of service.”
Elizabeth O’Shea – Volunteer of the Year
Elizabeth is a former president of the Mossman Branch of the Qld Country Women’s Association and is still an active member. She is a major influence on the Mossman District Seniors Group and works tirelessly to support events and outings for the group. Elizabeth also goes beyond the call of duty with many of the seniors and thinks nothing of driving people to Cairns hospitals and clinics.
Robert Hanan – Douglas Civic Recognition Award
The Douglas Shire Council inaugural Civic Recognition Award was presented to Robert Hanan in recognition of his dedication and guidance in leading the community efforts to achieve the creation of the new Douglas Shire.
Congratulations to all nominees, and thank you to everyone who took the time to submit nominations.
