Council refuses planning extension
Douglas Shire Council has refused an application to extend a development permit which does not comply with the current planning scheme.
The refusal to the request to extend the relevant period of approval for the development permit for material change of use for three multiple dwellings (residential) at 23 Coral Drive, Port Douglas, was based on the fact the original development permit was issued under the 1996 Douglas Shire Planning Scheme has been superseded by new planning controls.
The development approved under the development permit is inconsistent with the current Planning Scheme and planning controls and an extension to the permit is contrary to the expected outcomes for the land held by the community.
Resource and Performance Agreement template adopted
Council has adopted a Resource and Performance Agreement template for significant events and projects.
The template will ensure consistency with RPAs between Council and various organisations, and in limited instances businesses.
Specific details and performance outcomes relevant to each recipient will then be inserted in the standard agreement, which will also contain performance indicators or required outcomes.
Amended fees and charges adopted
Council has adopted the amended fees and charges for Library, Port Douglas Markets and additional Parks/Foreshore Bookings for the 2014/15 financial year.
The Library fees and charges were omitted from the schedule adopted on May 20, the Port Douglas Market fees were adjusted to assist with change requirements when collecting fees and additional parks and foreshore areas needed to be added to the schedule.
Daintree River Ferry Concessional Travel Policy adopted
Council has adopted the Daintree River Ferry Concessional Travel Policy.
The concessional travel arrangements allow regular eligible commuters to travel on the ferry at minimal cost which provides a significant social benefit, particularly to those people residing north of the Daintree River.
The policy will be reviewed by June 2018.
Dates set for 2014/15 Council meetings
Council has agreed on dates for Ordinary Meetings in the new financial year.
The meetings will continue to be held every third Tuesday, with the next Ordinary Council Meeting on July 15.

Council adopts asset management plan
Council has adopted an asset management plan to ensure the sustainable management of Council assets throughout the Douglas Shire.
Under the asset management plan, Council will implement a systematic asset management methodology to ensure that all Council assets are planned, created, operated, maintained, replaced and disposed of in accordance with Council’s priorities for service delivery.
