Mayor Julia Leu has announced that Douglas Shire Council will conduct at least three community forums in the Daintree over the next 18 months.
The forums will provide an opportunity for members of the Daintree communities to outline their issues, priorities and concerns with their elected representatives and Council staff.
“Communities north of the Daintree River are faced with unique circumstances because of their relative isolation, the challenges and opportunities of living in a World Heritage-listed environment,” Mayor Leu said.
“The new Douglas Council is serious about working closer with residents to improve service delivery and future opportunities.
“The Daintree forums will be an excellent opportunity for residents to communicate directly with Councillors and staff, about a range of issues that particularly affect communities north of the Daintree River”.
Cr David Carey presented the Notice of Motion for Council to undertake at least three community forums in the Daintree which was unanimously endorsed at yesterday’s Ordinary Council Meeting.
“There are many issues affecting the communities north of the river, some in common with Douglas generally and some others quite unique to the area,” Cr Carey said.
The location and date for the first community forum will be announced in the coming weeks.
