Douglas Shire Council is investigating the illegal poisoning of three rosewood trees in Warner Street.
The perpetrator has cut into the roots and injected poison into the trees (see below photos).
Council is severely disappointed and will be monitoring the declining health of the poisoned trees.
Douglas Shire Mayor Julia Leu said staff would thoroughly investigate the incident.
“I am gutted,” she said.
“Together, Council and the community came up with a solution that everyone was happy with, so for some vandal to come along and do this is incredibly disappointing.
“I am calling on anyone who may have information to contact Council.”
The poisoned trees were identified during a survey before upgrade works started this week.
It is an offence under Council’s Local Laws to damage or interfere with vegetation on Council-controlled land and significant penalties apply.
Anyone with information is encouraged to report it to Council on 4099 9444 or email email@example.com
