Douglas Shire Council intends to help revitalise the Mossman CBD by leasing out an historic empty building.
The shop premises, located at the corner of Front and Mill Streets and measuring approximately 100 square metres, are part of the historic Mossman Shire Hall complex and have been vacant for more than 12 months.
CEO Linda Cardew said Council was keen to hear from community organisations, individuals and businesses with an interest in leasing the shop premises.
“Council appreciates the significance of the building, not only in terms of its unique heritage value, but also its potential to deliver a more vibrant and lively ambiance to downtown Mossman,” Ms Cardew said.
“The purpose of calling for applications is to determine a relevant and sustainable vision of this premium location.”
Ms Cardew said it is essential applicants respond in writing with details of the proposed use, the proposed term and the amount of rent being offered.
“This is a unique opportunity to maximise the use of an important community asset and I’m sure the successful applicant will utilise the prime location in a way that really adds to the charm of the Mossman CBD,” Ms Cardew said.
The premises will be available for one viewing only on Friday, August 15, between 11am and noon.

Applications close on Friday, August 29.
