DOUGLAS Libraries and public recreational areas will re-open as Douglas Shire Council staff look at ways to bring services back to the community.

The Queensland Government last week released a ‘Roadmap to Easing QLD’s Restrictions’, providing guidelines with how Council can bring normality back to the region.

Changes to library services, the Mossman Pool and public recreational areas are among the re-opening announced by Council.

Douglas Shire Council CEO Mark Stoermer said the return of Council services would be a staged and measured approach.

“Council will carefully take each step in line with the latest health advice,” he said.

“It is important that our customers and staff maintain good hygiene practices, keep 1.5 metres away from others and staying home if you feel sick.”

Playgrounds & Exercise Equipment

  • All have re-opened in line with the latest Federal Government health advice. Social distancing and good hygiene is urged.

Customer Service Centres

Mossman Customer Service Centre will re-open from 8.30am to 4pm on Monday, May 25.

The building will close 30 minutes earlier than usual for cleaning. Staff can be contacted via phone or email until 4.30pm.

The Port Douglas Community Hub will remain closed until July.

Mossman Library

  • Reopens on Monday 18 May 2020
    • 10am to 3pm
  • Only 10 customers inside at any time for a maximum of 30 mins
  • Staff will monitor customer numbers
  • Will close earlier for cleaning each day
  • No device recharging available
  • Wi-Fi outside library only
  • Only two (2) public use computers available. Bookings essential (30min only). Call 4099 9496
  • Customers will be increased to 20 on 12 June 2020, as per Government staged easing of restrictions

Port Douglas Library

  • Reopens on Monday 18 May 2020
    • 9.30am to 1pm & 1.30PM to 3.30pm
  • Only two customers inside at any time for a maximum of 30 minutes
  • Will close earlier for cleaning purposes each day
  • No device recharging available
  • Reading room unavailable
  • Staff will monitor customer numbers
  • Only one (1) public use computer available. Bookings essential (30min only). Call 4099 9496

Active8 Program

  • Online programs still operating via live streaming.  Information can be found via Council’s website àhttps://douglas.qld.gov.au/active8/
  • Council will re-launch the park-based programs once 20 participants are permitted.

Port Douglas Markets

  • Council will review the ability to hold the Port Douglas Markets in the future in line with the latest Federal Government health advice.

Mossman Pool

  • Pool will reopen on Monday 18 May 2020
  • Opening hours:
    • 7am to 5pm Monday to Friday
    • 8am to 5pm Saturday and Sunday
  • Open for 10 customers at one time, by appointment and 1 hour time slot, multiple hourly time slots available if required
  • Communal showers and change rooms are closed, toilets will remain open.
  • Commercial lane hire available via appointment only

Mossman Caravan Park

  • Will remain open for permanent residents
