OLDER residents will have an opportunity to get moving with the hugely successful Game On Douglas Shire program this week.
Mossman and District Gymnastic Club is hosting “Move For Life” sessions – a program targeting over 55-year-olds – Friday and Saturday.
Douglas Shire Council Mayor Julia Leu said strong participation in the Game On program proved the importance of grants to the local community.
“This program has been a massive hit with our youth, who have embraced new initiatives such as Active Games in the Park at Diwan and Wonga Beach,” she said.
“These past few weeks have been a fantastic opportunity for people to try new sports and for our local clubs to grow their organisations at a grassroots level.
“Council plays a vital role in advocating for and delivering grants, which injects money, infrastructure and provide fresh opportunities for our regional communities.”
The Game On DS2018 – Come and Try! and EVEN MORE Active Games in the Park projects are delivered under the Queensland Government’s Embracing 2018 Legacy Program for the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games and is funded by the Australian Government.
Council is also seeking feedback from participants and facilitators to help review the Game On program.
The survey is available here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/GameOnDS2018
Feedback will be due on July 10.
Traditional Indigenous Games has also been added to the activities at George Davis Park, Bubu Kinkari, on Foxton Avenue Mossman every Tuesday at 3.30pm.
Table Tennis at the Mossman Bowls Club and Tai Chi at Mossman Shire Hall have also drawn in huge numbers.
A Come and Try Day for the Port Douglas Sailing Club will also be held on June 10.

“Douglas Shire Council has already pushed for several more grants this year and will continue to attract vital resources form the Federal and State Governments,” Mayor Leu said.
