So you want to be a councillor?
With the Queensland Government’s recent reforms amending the Local Government Electoral Act 2011, the introduction of the requirement for mandatory candidate training is to be completed by all candidates (including existing councillors) before they lodge their nomination with the Electoral Commission Queensland.
Training can be completed online at www.dlgrma.qld.gov.au/candidates.
The online training takes around one hour to complete and contains two modules covering the obligations of candidates and councillors.
Candidates who are unable to complete training online can register for a place at a limited number of face to face training sessions held across the state. The training is free and can be completed even if you have not yet made a final decision about whether to nominate in the election.
Training will be held at:
The Cairns Boland Centre
2:00pm-4:30pm and 6:00pm to 8:30pm
To register for this training online www.dlgrma.qld.gov.au/training or phone 07 3452 7148
