Acclaimed opera singer Alteouise De Vaaughn will conduct a four-hour choir workshop on November 22 at St Mary’s Catholic Church in Endeavour St, Port Douglas, from 12-4pm.
Alteouise will conduct the choir when it performs at the St Monica’s Cathedral annual concert with the wonderful Cairns Concert Orchestra on November 29.
The choir workshop is a top time for people who haven’t joined the choir to come and try it out. The choir is very inclusive, the sessions are lively and all levels of singers are welcome – especially blokes.
The music for the workshop will be the gospel piece Soulful Hallelujah by Quincy Jones – first half of the workshop. If you are not familiar with this fantastic gospel song, check it out on you tube.
The second half will be the four songs we’ve been working on this year from Handel’s Messiah – The Hallelujah Chorus, Unto Us a Child is Born, The Glory of the Lord and O Thou that Tellest Good Tidings to Zion – fabulous stuff to listen to but challenging but pretty thrilling to sing.
For more information on the choir workshop contact Tropical Queensland Oratorio Society secretary Andrea Collisson on 4098 5358. Cost to participate in the workshop is $20.
