AN ILLUMINATED fireworks viewing area featuring colours and effects will splash the Port Douglas waterfront to bring in 2019.
Douglas Shire Council will light up Anzac Park and Market Park from dusk to inject a celebratory spark into the popular annual New Year’s Eve event.
The kids’ fireworks have also been brought forward to 8pm for a more family-friendly experience, while a party soundtrack and audio countdown will play 30 minutes before each fireworks show.

Douglas Shire Mayor Julia Leu said NYE would continue to be a huge night for Port Douglas.
“The double-header fireworks show is always a crowd favourite,” she said.
“The town’s restaurants and bars get a good kick out of New Year’s Eve celebrations and I encourage everyone to make a night of it.
“A new family friendly time of 8pm will encourage more families to head into town, soak up the atmosphere and bring in 2019 in spectacular fashion.”

Many Douglas Shire businesses have jumped on board to support the annual event including 15 Wharf St, Mossman Hardware, Salsa Bar & Grill, M&R Kitchens, Rattle ‘n’ Hum, Ngarru Gallery, Quicksilver, Seabean, Xplosive Art Fireworks, The Court House Hotel, Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette, The Central Hotel and Paddy’s Irish Pub & Grill.
