Free domestic green waste disposal is now available for Douglas Shire residents.
Douglas Shire Council introduced the environmental initative, effective from July 1, as part of an overhaul of fees and charges for the new financial year.
Mayor Leu said the green waste initiative reflected Council’s commitment to supporting the community and the environment.
“Introducing free domestic green waste disposal and slashing costs for commercial green waste disposal are initiatives that will encourage even more local residents to help care for and preserve our pristine environment,” Mayor Leu said.
Under the new fees and charges schedule, self-delivered domestic green waste (car, wagon, small ute) which was previously $7.50 per load is now free.
Domestic green waste self-delivered (trailer, utility, van) is down 50 per cent to $5.50 and domestic green waste self-delivered (ute and trailer) is down 31 per cent to $12.50.
Commercial green waste self-delivered (ute, trailer or small truck) is down 21 per cent to $17.30, commercial green waste self-delivered (ute or small truck and trailer) is down 13 per cent to $28.70 and commercial green waste self-delivered (light truck 2-8 tonnes or tandem trailer) is down 11 per cent to $33.90.
Green waste disposal is available at the Killaloe Waste Station and Newell Beach Transfer Station.
