A VISION to transform the Mossman Pool and Caravan Park into a multi-purpose sporting precinct, tourist site and wellness centre is in the pipeline.
An indoor therapy pool, tennis court and children’s outdoor jumping pillow are some of the exciting ideas unveiled in a draft concept plan to be released by Douglas Shire Council this month.
Mayor Julia Leu said everyone will have a chance to influence the final master plan when community consultation opens on August 20.
“This will be a fantastic opportunity to make a really big splash,” she said.
“Council is really keen to redevelop this site into flash multi-purpose recreational precinct, not only for Douglas Shire residents, but for visitors travelling to the region.”
“Council will be engaging with a variety of sectors ranging from the medical industry and aged care stakeholders to schools and sporting groups.”
A new health and wellbeing centre, heated pool and spectator seating are also listed in the draft concept plan.
The Mossman Pool and Caravan Park is more than 30 years old.
Upgrades to drainage, starting blocks and timing equipment would bring the swimming pool up to regional competition standards.
All information will be available on Council’s website and Have Your Say page in coming weeks.
Council will be staffing displays at various locations including the Saturday Markets in Mossman and Sunday Markets in Port Douglas.
Venues, dates and times will be published on Council’s website and Facebook page.
The deadline for comment will be September 30, 2018.
Mayor Leu said Council would take this draft concept to the people.
“We are committed to providing lifestyle-boosting projects that are influenced and owned by the Douglas Shire community,” she said.
“Community engagement is critical and Council is going to make sure everyone has more than enough opportunity to have a say.
“This master plan will lay the foundations for an undeniable case when we advocate for staged state and federal government funding down the track.”
