Comment on Proposed Change to Parking in Murphy Street

Feedback Requested by 29 July 2024

Background

There have been a number of incidents and near misses with vehicles on Murphy Street including with Cleanaway, our contractor who provides kerbside waste collection services. There are plans to install underground drainage and to widen Murphy Street, but this will require grant funding. In the interim, Douglas Shire Council is considering limiting parking to one side of the street, between Owen and Island Point Road. This would be done by painting a yellow, no parking line on the drain side of the road, (the north side). Stopping cars from parking on both sides of the road will allow for safer two-way traffic.
