DOUGLAS Shire Council will temporarily close the Daintree River Ferry for two days in March 2022 to replace the vessel’s southern loading ramp.
The important repair work, which involves removing the damaged ramp and replacing it with a newly fabricated ramp, will ensure the crossing remains safe for the public to use heading into the post-COVID tourism season.
The ferry service will cease at 10pm on Friday 11 March 2022 and resume at 5am on Monday 14 March 2022, weather permitting.
Emergency services have made alternative arrangements during this period.
Council is finalising arrangements for a passenger ferry which will enable pedestrians to cross the river, however there will not be a vehicle ferry service for the 48-hour period.
If you would like to discuss your individual circumstances, please contact Council’s Community Liaison Officer Gaye Scott on 0418 793 009.
