The Leukaemia Foundation of Queensland is holding its major annual fundraising campaign, World’s Greatest Shave, from 13-16 March 2014. Each year, World’s Greatest Shave gets bigger and better with thousands of Queenslanders from all walks of life shaving or colouring their hair to raise money and demonstrate their support for blood cancer patients and their families.
Today, six Queenslanders will be given the devastating news that they have a form of blood cancer, such as leukaemia, lymphoma or myeloma. The Foundation depends on the funds raised through the World’s Greatest Shave to continue its vital work.
Each year, the Leukaemia Foundation of Queensland commits more than $1 million to medical research projects in a bid to find better treatment options and cures for blood cancers. It is also dedicated to caring for and supporting patients and their families by delivering support services such as free accommodation, counselling, transportation and financial assistance where necessary.
In 2014 efforts will be made to raise $5 million in Queensland through the World’s Greatest Shave. You and your community groups and organisations can support the event in many ways including:
- visiting www.worldsgreatestshave.com to see how you might participate in the event;
- encouraging your work place, friends and colleagues to register and participate by shaving or colouring their hair; or
- urging others to make donations to brave shavers and colourers.
Each year the World’s Greatest Shave receives considerable interest and support from media outlets and offers tremendous scope for positive stories demonstrating your commitment and involvement. Your support will make the world of difference to fellow Queenslanders in their time of need.
