Public Notice: Tree Maintenance Works – Grant Street
Tree maintenance works will be carried out on Grant Street, in Port Douglas on Monday 1 December 2025 (weather permitting).
Location
- Rotary Park – mature mango tree near Grant Street
- Syzygium outside the deli/Thai takeaway in the footpath dining zone
- Street trees along Grant Street car parks towards the Warner Street intersection
What’s Happening
Works will focus on safety, structure and amenity while maintaining tree health and the streetscape.
Rotary Park – mature/significant mango tree
- Carry out an aerial inspection to check condition of unions and cavities in the upper canopy.
- Remove fruit throughout the accessible canopy.
- Undertake targeted structural reduction to:
- shorten over-extended limbs and reduce end-weight
- prune back to suitable laterals to improve structure and reduce the likelihood of branch failure
- keep overall reduction modest, maintaining crown balance and internal foliage

- Light canopy reduction
- Deadwood removal

Selective canopy reduction to maintain clearance from car parks, footpaths, and adjacent buildings
Traffic and Access
- Temporary traffic and pedestrian management will be in place along Grant Street while works are underway.
- Short delays and changed parking conditions may occur; motorists and pedestrians are asked to follow signage and directions from traffic controllers.
- Access to nearby businesses and footpath dining areas will be maintained where possible, with localised exclusion zones around active work areas.
