Abandoned Vehicles

Unclaimed abandoned vehicles will be disposed or offered for sale by auction.

Once published to this webpage, owners will have 28 days to claim their vehicle. If the vehicle is not claimed, a further notice will be published  and the owner will have a further 14 days to claim the vehicle before it listed for sale by auction.

To collect an impounded vehicle, the owner must provide sufficient proof of ownership and proof of identity, and pay all costs incurred in the removal and storage of the vehicle. Owners must make an appointment with Council’s Pound Officer to arrange release of the vehicle. Notice of Auction

An auction will be held on Thursday 10 October 2024, 10am at Killaloe Transfer Station, Lot 170 Killaloe Dump Road, Killaloe.

Vehicles will be available for inspection one hour before the auction.

Conditions of sale:

  • The sale price at auction must be paid in full to Douglas Shire Council within 24hrs of the Auction. Payment can be made at Council’s Administration Building, 64-66 Front Street, Mossman or at the Hub at Port Douglas using credit card\ EFTPOS. No cash is accepted at the Hub in Port Douglas. The vehicle must also be removed from the site within the agreed time frame as noted. Failure to pay within 24hrs or to collect the vehicle within the agreed time frame will result in the sale becoming null and void and the vehicle will remain the property of the Council.
  • A copy of your receipt and confirmation of purchase of Abandoned Vehicle Notice must be provided to the transfer station supervisor/ weigh bridge operator as proof of sale.
  • No modification or alterations to the vehicle are to be undertaken on site.
  • Council takes no responsibility for any content of the vehicle and any unwanted contents must be disposed of appropriately by the purchaser.
  • Council takes no responsibility for the road worthiness or registration status of the vehicle, nor is responsible for any encumbrances on the vehicle.
  • Any approvals or equipment required to relocate the vehicle from the site are the responsibility of the purchaser.
  • Vehicles must be removed from Killaloe Transfer Station within seven days of the auction.

Council currently have 15 cars that will be going to auction.
