Becoming a citizen represents a commitment to Australia and its people. Australian citizenship symbolises our unity as a nation and it gives a sense of belonging because you can fully participate in all aspects of Australian life.

Douglas Shire Council’s Mayor, under the direction of the Australian Government’s Department of Immigration and Citizenship conducts Australian Citizenship.

Douglas Shire Council conducts three Citizenship Ceremonies annually – on Australia Day (January 26), on a date TBA in June and on National Citizenship Day (September 17) when possible or a date closest during that week.

All enquiries related to obtaining citizenship should be directed to the Department of Immigration and Border Protection as Council is only responsible for conducting the ceremony based on the list of citizenship candidates provided by the Department.
