Public Notice: Tree Maintenance Works – Mossman
Douglas Shire Council will be carrying out tree maintenance works in Mossman on Sunday 30 November and Monday 1 December (weather permitting).
Location
Front Street, Mossman – from the Junction Road / Foxton Avenue and Front Street intersection through to the Council Administration Building entrance.
What’s Happening
Removal of one juvenile fig tree
- Location: Centre island in front of The Exchange, 2 Front Street, Mossman.
- Reason: Although still juvenile, the tree is:
- Encroaching into a traffic lane
- Blocking nearby traffic/camera sightlines
- Impacting an adjacent electrical power box
- Growing within an area containing extensive underground services (power and water), making it unsuitable for this site long-term.
Removing the tree now will help avoid future safety risks, service damage, and more disruptive works as the tree matures.
Pruning of street trees
- Pruning trees along Front Street to remove branches impacting:
- Traffic lanes
- Parking bays and verges
- Pedestrian footpaths
These works will improve safety and visibility for road users and pedestrians while maintaining tree health.
Traffic and Access
- Traffic management will be in place during works.
- Short delays may occur; motorists are asked to follow signage and directions from traffic controllers.
- Access to local businesses and parking will be maintained where possible.
- The work most likely to impact traffic flow will be carried out on Sunday, when traffic volumes are lowest
