Douglas Shire Council has renewed its commitment to the region’s tourism industry by endorsing a new $1.5m funding agreement with Tourism Port Douglas Daintree (TPDD).
The three-year agreement outlines continued financial support for TPDD to deliver destination marketing, visitor engagement, and tourism development initiatives that align with the region’s strategic goals.
Mayor Lisa Scomazzon said the partnership with TPDD plays a vital role in promoting the Douglas Shire as a world-class destination.
“Tourism is the lifeblood of our local economy, and TPDD has been instrumental in showcasing the unique natural and cultural experiences our region offers,” Mayor Scomazzon said.
“This funding ensures we continue to attract visitors, support local businesses, and grow sustainable tourism.
“Council is proud to back an organisation that not only promotes our region but also works closely with operators and stakeholders to deliver real outcomes.”
Tourism Port Douglas Daintree Executive Officer Emma Tunnock, who joined the Mayor and TPDD Chairwoman Rosie Douglas at Wildlife Habitat Port Douglas, described the new agreement as a “strong vote of confidence in the work we do to market the destination and support the tourism industry”.
“It allows us to continue building momentum, target key markets, and ensure Port Douglas and the Daintree remain top of mind for travellers year-round,” Ms Tunnock said.
“We’re proud to represent such a passionate tourism community and look forward to delivering meaningful outcomes over the next three years. We sincerely thank Douglas Shire Council for their ongoing partnership and commitment to the success of our region.”
