One of Australia’s most challenging and picturesque four-wheel-drive tracks, which starts just north of the Daintree Village, is reopening for the first time in 2024!
Douglas Shire Council is pleased to announce the CREB Track will be available to drive, after months of road repairs, from Monday, September 9 (subject to weather conditions).
Douglas Shire Mayor Lisa Scomazzon said the 71-kilometre track suffered significant damage in the flooding that followed Tropic Cyclone Jasper.
“The southern river crossing of the trail has been reinstated while numerous small landslips and fallen trees have been cleared off the track,” Mayor Scomazzon said.
“A big thank you to Council staff and contractors for all their hard work to open the CREB Track this year.
“I am sure there are many four-wheel-drive enthusiasts who can’t wait to test their skills on the track’s rugged terrain and river crossings once more.”
Drivers are reminded to consider weather conditions as it only takes a light shower, and the track can become impassable. Pack recovery gear, if possible, travel in a convoy, and always carry food and water in the event you need to camp overnight on the track which is not an uncommon occurrence.
