With just one month to go, excitement is building for the official opening of the Port Douglas Splash Park, set to take place on Saturday 20 September 2025.
A full day of festivities is planned to celebrate this vibrant new community space at Jalunbu Park, Garrick Street.
Located in the heart of Port Douglas, the Splash Park will officially open to the public at 10am, with a special ceremony featuring Mayor Lisa Scomazzon, Member for Cook David Kempton, and JMAC Construction Manager Greg LeBrocque.
At 10:15am, the Mayor will press the button to activate the waterspouts, inviting the crowd to rush in and enjoy the fun.
The official opening will feature:
- Live DJ music
- Bubble Lady and Sea Circus performances
- Daintree Ice Cream giveaways
Later in the day (5pm to 8pm), a Splash Park After Dark event will be held, with the park’s choreographed water fountains and coloured lights on show for families and older visitors.
Douglas Shire Mayor Lisa Scomazzon said there would also be a sneak peek Splash Park Party on Thursday September 18.
“This schools-only event celebrates the students who helped shape the park’s design and gives them a chance to be the first to experience the fun,” Mayor Scomazzon said.
“I can’t wait to see their faces light up when the water starts flowing – and then the fun begins!”
The sneak peek event will include:
- A Finding Nemo Treasure Hunt with prizes
- A Best Dressed Challenge
- Free Zooper Doopers and picnic-style lunch
- Splash and Dance sessions
The $4.75 million project has been made possible thanks to $2.53 million in funding from the Queensland Government.
