Douglas Shire Council is inviting residents and stakeholders to a dedicated community meeting to learn more about the Daintree Ferry Landside Infrastructure and Ferry Replacement projects.
The meeting, to be held on Thursday 20 November, will give locals a chance to hear directly from the Council’s project team and the contractors delivering the upgrades: Durack Civil (landside infrastructure) and Birdon Pty Ltd (ferry design, build and operation).
Attendees will gain insights into:
- Road and ramp works on both sides of the river
- Project timelines and construction management
- Ferry build and delivery plans
- How to stay informed and have your say
Mayor Lisa Scomazzon said the meeting was an important step in keeping the community informed and involved.
“This is a huge step forward for our community. The journey to a new, modern ferry and supporting infrastructure has been a long time coming and now we’re finally seeing progress,” Mayor Scomazzon said.
“We know it’s not always easy to get a clear picture of a project of this scale without asking questions. That’s why we’re encouraging everyone to come along, ask questions, and be part of the conversation.”
Construction of the landside infrastructure is scheduled to begin after the 2026 wet season. The new ferry is expected to enter service by late 2027.
Even if you plan to attend, residents are encouraged to submit questions in advance to help the project team prepare thorough responses.
