Former Cow Bay clinic to gain new life as resilience hub

A much-loved, former health clinic will be repurposed into a compact community resilience hub, providing residents north of the Daintree with a dedicated indoor space for disaster preparedness, recovery operations and year-round community activities.

Council will be refurbishing the former clinic building, which has remained largely unused since the opening of the region’s new $14.8 million health facility in August last year.

The project, which will include a full refresh of the existing spaces, refurbishment of internal flooring, new furniture and kitchenettes will be completed by the end of the year, weather permitting.

League exhibition match for Mossman

A representative rugby league match featuring Eastern Kuku Yalanji and Italian representative sides will be held in Mossman.

The proposed match will be held in place of a NAIDOC rugby league carnival that was cancelled due to sorry business.

Council had committed $10,000 to the carnival, with that funding now to be redirected to the one-off match at Coronation Park.

Sweeper detour to benefit Mossman club

Parents dropping off their children at gymnastics can expect a cleaner landing, with Council adding a busy carpark to its street-sweeping routine.

Council has agreed to include the Mossman & District Gymnastics carpark on Mill Street in its regular sweeping schedule, helping volunteers save time and resources while keeping the area clean and litter free.

Drumming and video resilience projects to receive funding

A resilience, arts and wellbeing program has reopened its funding round to support a drumming workshop and extend a local storytelling project at the library.

The Rhythm 2 Recovery program, which combines drumming with reflective discussions, will receive $15,000.

A further $2,500 will be awarded to the Living Library project. Mossman Library staff have been trained to create local video stories of resilience, with plans to launch the first of these stories next month.

The Community Building Resilience Funding (Arts & Wellbeing) program is jointly funded by the Australian and Queensland Governments under the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA).
