Douglas Shire Council has officially adopted its Annual Report for 2024–2025, highlighting a year marked by ongoing recovery from Tropical Cyclone Jasper, major infrastructure upgrades and community engagement.

Mayor Lisa Scomazzon said the report showcased Council’s commitment to building a resilient, inclusive and vibrant region.

“This year has been about rebuilding and reconnecting,” Mayor Scomazzon said.

“Council had progressed planning for the Daintree Ferry replacement project and had Splash Park construction well underway by the end of the 2024-2025 financial year. Together, with creative recovery programs and community grants, these initiatives have helped lay the groundwork for a stronger, more connected Douglas Shire.”

Highlights include:

  • Completion of major upgrades to Noah and Alexandra Ranges, improving safety and access
  • Progress on the Daintree Ferry replacement project, with tenders received and landside works awarded
  • Establishment of a Disaster Management Unit (DMU) to lead recovery and preparedness efforts
  • Construction milestones reached for the Port Douglas Splash Park, with a September opening
  • Delivery of water infrastructure upgrades in Miallo, Rocky Point and Port Douglas, enhancing supply reliability
  • $1.5 million funding agreement with Tourism Port Douglas Daintree (TPDD) to support destination marketing and tourism development
  • Adoption of the Corporate Plan 2025–2030, setting strategic direction across four pillars: Liveability, Prosperity, Service Delivery, and Recovery & Resilience

Chief Executive Officer Scott Osman said the Annual Report highlights Council’s commitment to recovery and responsible planning.

“It captures the work we’ve done to support our community through challenging times, while continuing to invest in infrastructure, services and long-term sustainability. Our focus remains on delivering outcomes that matter to our residents and positioning the shire for a strong future.”

The Annual Report will be available online at douglas.qld.gov.au, with limited hard copies available at Council’s administration building in Mossman and libraries.
