We want everyone to be able to enjoy our beaches. Together with the local surf life-saving club, we provide beach matting and a beach wheelchair for people to use free of charge.

Beach Matting

Beach matting makes it easier to get from the main beach entry, onto the sand and close to the water.

Matting is located at the following location:

  • Four Mile Beach, Port Douglas – use the sealed pathway adjacent the Port Douglas Surf Life Saving Club (along Mowbray Street), accessed by the ramp.

Matting availability is dependent on tidal and wind conditions.

Beach Wheelchair

The Sandcruiser wheelchair is available free of charge on a first come first service basis and does not require a booking.

Availability:

  • Pick up from the Surf Life Saving Lifeguard Hut located on Four Mile Beach
  • 9am-4:30pm, seven days a week

Please note: the user and/or support person must ensure they have the help required to use the Sandcruiser wheelchair independently of the lifeguard(s) on patrol.

Key features of the Sandcruiser wheelchair include:

  • All-terrain wheelchair (shallow water only)
