Douglas Shire Council has arranged for disaster recovery specialist, David Younger to visit Wonga Beach
When: Monday 27 May 2024.
Time: 6pm to 8pm. Registrations from 5:30pm. Free dinner provided after David’s presentation.
Venue: Wonga Rural Fire Brigade. 9-11 Oleander Drive, Wonga QLD 4873
David is a natural disaster recovery consultant who, over the past 15 years, has worked first-hand with communities who have been impacted by extreme weather events and natural disasters. Through a blend of storytelling, scientific findings, and real-life experiences, David will talk about common recovery challenges and provide tips and pointers to help people recover better.
Late April, we arranged for David to attend a community meeting in Degarra where many homes in the community were flooded and one person died. The recovery process is still underway and will be for many months. The impact will be felt for residents for many years. Residents found hearing from David was helpful, such that we have arranged for a follow up meeting.
Many people in Wonga Beach were impacted by flood waters and/or by the subsequent power and water outages and may benefit from listening to David. Everyone is invited to attend, and you are encouraged to spread the word to others who you think may be interested.
