The huge task of removing tonnes of hard rubbish from flood-affected homes begins tomorrow (December 27).

Council will be collecting the event-damaged furniture and other household items which have been moved from inside the house and immediately around the home to the kerbside.

Crews will not be accepting asbestos material.

Douglas Shire Council Acting CEO Scott Mason said the collection service was a critical step in the recovery process.

“It’s been a devastating time for many of our residents and removing the damaged goods from outside people’s properties is one way Council can help them move forward,” Mr Mason said

“The hard rubbish collection also has important health implications for our community.”
