Residents and tourists can look forward to a safer and more reliable Daintree River Ferry following the completion of a crucial upgrade.

The ferry returns to its normal operating hours from today (5am to midnight).

Douglas Shire Council Mayor Michael Kerr said the upgrade was completed on time and with minimal disruption to our local users.

“This urgent work was completed overnight to ensure the peak morning and afternoon periods were unaffected,” Mayor Kerr said.

“We would like to thank our local residents for their patience over this time”.

“The community can now look forward to a more reliable service due to the repairs.”

The maintenance involved modifying four davits (crane-like devices) which are used to raise and lower the ferry’s ramps.
