The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) will reduce the speed limit on a section of Port Douglas Road (Macrossan Street), Port Douglas, to improve safety.
The speed limit on Macrossan Street, will be reduced to 40 km/h from Davidson Street to Grant Street, and 30 km/h from Grant Street to Wharf Street. This will improve safety for all road users on this busy road which has high pedestrian traffic.
The speed reduction is expected to take effect from mid-November 2024, weather and construction conditions permitting.
The works will also include installation of speed zone entry pavement markings at designated locations.
Variable message signs (VMS) will be in place temporarily to inform road users about the changed speed zones.
