On December 21, Douglas Shire Council contacted the state government for additional support to complement its response strategy.
An Urban Utilities, Mutual Aid Coordination Cell (MACC), was activated to support the region’s water and wastewater infrastructure recovery.
Late last night, a truck arrived carrying an array of pipes and fittings from Urban Utilities and Unitywater to support rectifying local water networks in Douglas Shire.
The crews are now optimising the Mossman Water Treatment Plant to maintain water production and rectify temporary water network repairs like burst water mains to decrease regional disruption.
More trucks are on their way to support the surrounding communities of the Douglas Shire and bring clean water back to normal operations.
Special thanks to Mareeba Shire Council for receiving the B-double load truck (as pictured below) at their depot, and breaking it down for safe entry into Douglas Shire.
