Roadside Vegetation Removal | Corner Wharf Street and Island Point Road
Safety Improvements:
Following a site inspection by council officers and a recommendation from an external traffic engineer, it has been determined that vegetation on the corner of Wharf Street and Island Point Road needs to be removed to improve sight distance for the intersection and nearby access to the water reservoir.
Trees to be Removed:
- Vegetation will be removed from approximately 13 metres down Wharf Street and 30 metres up Island Point Road.
- Seven mature trees will be removed from the corner, along with several palms and all smaller regrowth trees in between them.
- The two largest trees, which are the primary contributors to obstructed sightlines, are African Tulips, an invasive species.
Impacts
- The work will be quite noisy as it involves wood chipping branches and trunks, and stump grinding.
- There will be an increase in the number of trucks in the area.
- Work will commence no earlier than 7am and will finish at or before 5pm.
- With machinery and trucks, traffic control will be in place to keep pedestrians and workers safe.
- Once the vegetation has been removed, turf will be laid down.
- Council is seeking quotes from contractors and once confirmed, an update will be sent out to advise when the work is scheduled to be done.
