The 4WD tracks in Douglas Shire are considered among Australia’s most scenic and challenging drives.

The drives traverse spectacular World Heritage-listed rainforest and provide access to the Aboriginal community of Wujal Wujal and on to Cooktown.

If you intend to drive the CREB Track or Bloomfield Track, you are strongly advised to check weather conditions beforehand.

Neither 4WD route is suitable for towing trailers, campervans or caravans.

You are strongly advised to check weather conditions before tackling the road.  It is only partially sealed with very steep ranges and natural creek crossings. As such, the road can become impassable after heavy rain.  Motorists should exercise caution when traversing natural creek crossings. Road conditions can change quickly. Gravel coverage on some sections of Cape Tribulation Bloomfield Road, were washed away with the damage caused by TC Jasper and the subsequent, unrelenting torrential rain. Hence, after just a small amount of rain, the road can become slippery. You should always drive slowly and carefully, particularly if you are not used to unsealed roads.

Please check the 4WD road status below. Call Douglas Shire Council on 4099 9444 if you have any further questions.
