Council is challenging the Douglas Shire’s creative crowd to think big and community‑facing when applying for a beefed‑up round of arts funding.

Labelled the “Super Round”, funding of up to $10,000 per application will soon be available through the Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF) — double what is normally on offer.

Mayor Lisa Scomazzon said the expanded funding reflects Council’s commitment to supporting the region’s creative sector and helping artists deliver projects that benefit the wider community.

“The arts community deserves some love and this Super Round gives people the chance to take their ideas further,” she said.

“We understand the cost of materials and the logistics of setting up a project can be expensive, so we hope the extra money allows applicants to be more ambitious without being too hamstrung by expenses.”

A RADF Applicant Workshop will be held on February 25 at Council’s Administration Building in Mossman to help people prepare submissions. Applications open in March and close at the end of April.

“The workshop is a chance for applicants to ask questions, understand program and acquittal requirements and make sure their project proposals are well‑prepared ahead of assessment,” Mayor Scomazzon said.

People interested in attending are asked to contact Councils RADF Liaison Officer on 07 4099 9444 or via e-mail radf@douglas.qld.gov
