Douglas Shire Council wishes to advise that scheduled maintenance works will be undertaken on the Flagstaff Hill Walking Track.
Work details
Contractors will commence track maintenance works from:
Wednesday 11 February to Friday 20 February 2026 (weather permitting).
While these works were originally programmed for after the wet season, favourable weather conditions have enabled the project to proceed earlier than anticipated.
Track access
The walking track will remain open during this period.
Contractor staff will be onsite to manage pedestrian movements and ensure safe access along the track. At the completion of each workday, the contractor will ensure the track is left in a safe condition for public use.
Scope of works
Maintenance activities will include:
- Installation of new prefabricated steps in areas affected by washouts, where step heights have become unsafe
- Placement and pinning of rock armour plates in larger washout sections to improve track durability and longevity
- Rebuilding degraded sections of track using crushed rock deco
- Establishment of a temporary laydown area at the southern end of the track for storage of materials, including steps and rock armour plates
What to expect
Track users may experience:
- Increased contractor and material activity
- Minor, short-term delays while pedestrians are guided through work areas
Council appreciates the community’s patience while these important maintenance works are completed to improve safety and long-term track resilience.
