Major flooding of the Daintree River has caused the Daintree Ferry to come loose from its moorings.

Council and emergency crews will work to recover the vessel as soon as conditions allow. Queensland Police Service has been informed and is aware of the situation.

With extreme weather and major flooding already affecting the region, Douglas Shire Council is asking residents north of the river, as well as visitors, for patience as crews respond to a challenging and fast‑changing situation.

Mayor Lisa Scomazzon said the temporary loss of the ferry was a challenging situation for both the community and Council.

“Our teams will be working to safely recover the ferry once conditions improve,” Mayor Scomazzon said.

“We ask for everyone’s patience and understanding as we continue to deal with a major flooding event that is affecting the entire region.”

Council will provide more information as soon as it becomes available and once crews are able to safely assess the situation.
