A familiar sight along the Noah Range is now gone, with the final shipping containers removed from the base of the massive post-Jasper landslip over the weekend.
For many in the Daintree and across the shire, those containers became an iconic marker of the damage — a reminder of just how big the slip was and how long the recovery would take.
They might not have been pretty but they provided important protection for motorists and the crews.
The entire slip face is now covered in heavy duty matting to stabilise the area and prevent further erosion. The next major step is clearing the metres of dirt and debris that buried the original road surface and assessing the downslope.
It’s another encouraging sign of progress as work continues.
