Free family fun, adventure and entertainment will be on offer for families of all ages during Port Douglas Carnivale from 22 to 24 May.

Sideshow Alley gets the party started early for locals on Wednesday 20 May with $30 wristbands for unlimited rides that evening as part of four huge nights of Carnivale fairground fun.

The weekend prior, Blast Lab will bring a high-energy, family-friendly science show to the Paramour Big Top on Saturday 16 May and Sunday 17 May. Created for curious kids and families, the show combines live experiments, audience participation and fast-paced demonstrations, with bubbling potions, flying objects and explosive reactions forming part of the experience.

Port Douglas Carnivale’s Macrossan Street Parade returns on the Friday with the theme Ancient Wonders turning the family-favourite into a celebration of the Great Barrier Reef and the ancient Daintree Rainforest.

Get your first glimpse of The Space Cowboy giving a pre-parade performance of his Guiness World Record-breaking feats including sword swallowing and chainsaw juggling on the corner of Wharf and Macrossan Streets ahead of the Macrossan Street Parade. He returns on Saturday at The Tin Shed’s Family Beach Day.

Saturday transforms Four Mile Beach into a playground for The Tin Shed’s Family Beach Day.  From 9am to 3pm, families can enjoy a huge variety of activities, including sandcastle competitions with prizes, a Skydive Australia display, treasure hunt, hula hooping, sack races, market stalls, food trucks and free live entertainment.

Bring your furry friend along for the Pooch Party in the morning with prizes for the best dressed, naughtiest, and owner/dog lookalike sure to give you a laugh. On Sunday the new Coastal Show and Shine event by the Douglas Shire Motor Sports Association will showcase classic vehicles.

Across Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights, the Sugar Wharf will be illuminated with Tropic Lights, a colourful and magical projection by Culture Mechanics.

Throughout the weekend, families can also visit the Tropical Spectrum exhibition by local artists and artisans at the Douglas Arts Studio Gallery in Mossman and the popular Go Troppo Art Exhibition and Market at the Sugar Wharf.

Douglas Shire Mayor Lisa Scomazzon said Port Douglas Carnivale was a wonderful opportunity for families to spend time together enjoying the community’s tropical lifestyle.
