Douglas Shire Council is continuing to enhance the Port Douglas foreshore, with new upgrades designed to make the Splash Park precinct even more inviting, accessible and safe for families and tourists.
Following the completion of the Splash Park last year, Council is building on the area’s popularity through a series of improvements funded in the 2026–27 budget, strengthening the connection between Four Mile Beach and Macrossan Street.
The works include:
- $350,000to upgrade the existing Splash Park carpark
- $300,000for a new foreshore pathway and lighting
- $250,000to increase the size and capacity of the toilet and shower facilities
Mayor Lisa Scomazzon said the Splash Park has quickly become a favourite destination for local and visiting families.
“The Splash Park has transformed this part of the foreshore into a vibrant, family‑friendly space,” Mayor Scomazzon said.
“These upgrades build on that success by making the precinct even more welcoming and easier to access.”
She said expanding the toilet and shower block is a direct response to community need and reflects the feedback Council has heard from locals.
“It’s clear the current facilities are no longer big enough to cater for both Four Mile Beach visitors and the growing number of families enjoying the Splash Park,” she said.
“A larger amenities block will make a real difference for everyone using the area.”
The new pathway and lighting will create a safer and more enjoyable link between the beach end of Macrossan Street and Mowbray Street.
“At the moment, this stretch is quite dark at night,” Mayor Scomazzon said.
“By weaving a gently lit pathway through the lawned area, we’re opening up the foreshore and creating a more welcoming connection between Port’s main street and the Splash Park.”
Mayor Scomazzon said the upgrades reflect Council’s commitment to improving public spaces that support community wellbeing and enhance the visitor experience.
“We’re making the most of one of Port Douglas’ most loved areas,” she said. “These improvements will create a safer, more connected and more enjoyable foreshore for everyone.”
