Mossman residents will see several important improvements in the 2026–27 Budget, with upgrades aimed at strengthening the places locals use every day.

The Community Facilities program includes:

  • Commencing planning for Mossman revitalisation project initiatives
  • $1.29m Alchera Drive stormwater and footpath project – improving the stormwater network and improving footpath connections in Mossman.
  • $360,000 for CCTV upgrades to improve safety, visibility and afterhours security
  • $180,000 for Mossman Pool upgrades, including a new fence and changeroom tiling to modernise the facility
  • $25,000 for the Mossman Gorge–Mossman footpath lighting investigation, exploring solar capacity, vegetation considerations and technical requirements for safer earlymorning and evening use
  • Maintenance and improvements at Mossman Library and Mossman Shire Hall

Douglas Shire Mayor Lisa Scomazzon said the budget reflected Council’s commitment to maintaining and improving community facilities in Mossman and across the wider shire.

“Mossman is the heart of our community, and these upgrades show our commitment to keeping its facilities safe, modern and well used,” Mayor Scomazzon said.

She said the Mossman Gorge–Mossman pathway lighting investigation responds directly to how the community is using the space.

“The pathway has become a really popular connection for walkers, cyclists and community events like the Yalanji RAW fun run,” she said. “Exploring lighting options is about making that experience safer and even more enjoyable.”

She added that the Mossman Pool improvements contribute to making the facility more inviting for local families.

“Refreshing the fencing and changerooms will give the pool a more modern feel and help encourage more families to make use of this beautiful facility,” she said.

The budget also includes upgrades to other important community spaces across the shire, including Daintree Village and communities north of the river:

  • $100,000 for the Daintree Community Hall refurbishment
  • $10,000 for the Daintree community toilet roof replacement
  • $10,000 for safety upgrades at Daintree State School

North of the river

  • $600,000 for Cape Tribulation boardwalk renewal
  • $605,000 for Forrest Creek culvert renewal
  • Upgrades to the Alexandra Bay (Diwan) SES shed, including improvements to power supply and operational capability

“The Daintree Community Hall is a vital gathering place and resilience hub and the refurbishment will make it more comfortable and functional for the many groups who rely on it,” Mayor Scomazzon said.
