Mossman Pool is now more accessible and inclusive for residents and visitors following the installation of a new access lift.

The hydraulic access lift has been installed at the community pool, improving access to the water for people of all ages and abilities.

Douglas Shire Mayor Lisa Scomazzon said the new lift was an important addition that would help ensure the pool remained a welcoming space for everyone.

“Council is committed to creating facilities that can be enjoyed by all of members of our community, regardless of age or ability,” Mayor Scomazzon said.

“The Mossman Pool is a well-loved community venue and this new access lift will make it easier for more people to participate in swimming, exercise, rehabilitation programs and recreational activities.”

Mayor Scomazzon said the project had received strong support during a consultation process.

“The community clearly recognised the benefits this lift would provide, with almost 100 people signing a petition in support of the project and strong support from local schools, community groups and the health sector,” she said.

The feedback highlighted the important role the lift would play in improving access for people with disabilities and mobility limitations, school swimming programs, older residents and people participating in rehabilitation and water-based therapy.

The new lift is now operational and available for use at Mossman Pool.
