Have you ever wondered what the story is behind the rusty old bomb in place at ANZAC Park?
This sea mine was laid by the Royal Australian Navy to protect Cairns from sea attack during World War 2 and was disarmed by bomb disposal expert John Bartlett (RAN) after it came adrift in waters off Port Douglas in 1948.
John turned 100 this year and to mark this milestone his family requested a plaque, recognised this moment in history, be installed.
We were happy to oblige!
If you are heading to the Port Douglas service tomorrow morning, we encourage you to check it out.
