The Queensland Government has commenced the next stage of construction on the Wangetti Trail, from Ellis Beach to Wangetti, marking another major milestone in the delivery of one of Queensland’s most significant ecotourism projects.
Partnering with Cairns-based World Trail Company, who have joined forces with Contour Works to deliver this next stage of the trail, together they bring world-renowned expertise in trail design and construction, with a track record of delivering iconic trail projects across Australia and internationally.
A key initiative under the Queensland Government’s Destination 2045 tourism plan, the Wangetti Trail will provide a world-class walking and mountain biking experience through some of Tropical North Queensland’s most spectacular coastal environment.
The project is designed to deliver lasting benefits for local communities, visitors and businesses by creating a unique nature-based tourism experience that showcases the region’s outstanding natural and cultural heritage.
The next stage of construction will continue work on priority sections of the trail and associated infrastructure, helping bring the vision for the trail closer to reality.
The Wangetti Trail is expected to:
- Attract visitors from across Australia and around the world
- Create jobs during construction and operation
- Support tourism growth and regional businesses
- Enhance outdoor recreation opportunities
- Showcase the environmental and cultural significance of the region

The Queensland Government is continuing to work closely with Traditional Owners, stakeholders and the community throughout project delivery to ensure environmental and cultural values are protected and celebrated.
The Wangetti Trail is expected to become one of Australia’s premier ecotourism experiences, providing visitors with an unforgettable journey through one of the country’s most iconic landscapes.
