Through its two COVID-19 recovery group committees – the Economic Recovery Group; and Social and Human Recovery Group – Council is backing the community and its local businesses with the launch of the ‘Do It In Douglas‘ Campaign.

The campaign encourages the community to think before they buy and support local businesses while also sharing creative ways to connect with each other through social distancing.

The Do it in Douglas campaign is centred around three themes:

  • 40 Days in 40 Ways – Sharing creative ways to make the most of staying at home while social distancing.
  • Buy Douglas: Build Douglas – Encouraging people to think before they buy and support a local business wherever possible.
  • Street Bank – A community-run initiative that supports neighbours in times of need.

Off the back of the Federal Government’s decision to cancel all non-essential outdoor and indoor gatherings, close venues and non-essential businesses, Council is encouraging all residents to do their part to support local businesses wherever possible over the coming months.

40 Days in 40 Ways kicks off on Good Friday encouraging residents to get involved for the long weekend.

Participate in a full calendar of family-friendly, free activities and competitions, which will be published each day on Council’s Facebook Page.

Douglas Shire Council Mayor Elect, Michael Kerr promoted 40 Days in 40 Ways as the perfect opportunity to entertain your family at home.

“These initiatives are an opportunity to support local businesses by motivating the community to engage, so that we can recover and prosper in tough times,” he said.

“It’s great to be able to participate in a variety of activities to get us through COVID-19 together.

“The 40 Days in 40 Ways initiative has activities to suit everyone – I’d really encourage residents to get involved, it’s fun and great for the community,” he said.

Activities include competitions, virtual tours of local attractions, Active8 Free Fitness live streaming and fun ways to support your community.

Tune in to Council’s Facebook Page each day to participate.
