Douglas Shire Council has responded to an urgent call for assistance from communities affected by ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred, with members of Council’s Disaster Management Unit (DMU) to complete a seven day deployment to support the Redland City Council.

Three DMU team members, will provide specialist disaster management support to the City of Logan and are due to arrive on Monday afternoon.

Douglas Shire Council Mayor Lisa Scomazzon said she was proud of the support that Douglas Shire Council is providing and the dedication of the DMU team members.

“Council’s experienced and specialised team will assist with disaster operations, response, planning, logistics and recovery at Redland’s Local Disaster Coordination Centre,” Mayor Scomazzon said.

“The Redland City Council team are working long hours, in a stressful environment, and will no doubt appreciate the assistance and skills our DMU team will bring to their response and recovery efforts. I know our Council benefited greatly from outside support in the wake of Cyclone Jasper.”

“In tough times, the generosity and willingness of Councils to roll up their sleeves and work together for disaster affected communities is on full show. I’m confident our DMU team will provide valuable support and will represent Douglas Shire Council proudly.”

Ex-Cyclone Alfred is now a tropical low, with intense rainfall and flooding expected to continue over the coming days.
