The weekend of 13-14 September 2025 will see thousands of runners and cyclists travelling to Tropical North Queensland for the 4th running of the Port Douglas Gran Fondo Festival, which now includes the new RUN PORT DOUGLAS event. The Gran Fondo will showcase some of the incredible scenery in the region as riders travel between Port Douglas and Palm Cove.

Saturday’s events include the new RUN PORT DOUGLAS event and the Hartley’s to Port mountain bike race, with all events finishing on Four Mile Beach. The road closures for the run will only be for short periods, early in the morning, with only a few roads closed until 10:00am at the latest.

On Sunday, the Gran Fondo event will be held on a combination of roads that are open to other road users and some roads that will be closed to vehicle traffic. This will be managed by qualified Traffic Controllers and Queensland Police. The ride (which is not a race) will also be monitored by a professional medical team with dedicated services from Queensland Ambulance Service.

Emergency vehicles will still have full access to Great Barrier Reef Drive in both directions between Port Douglas and Cairns during these times.
